Vacancy – Occupational Therapist

We are seeking the support of an Occupational Therapist who could come into our centre on a regular sessional/freelance basis to participate in our ‘Pilot Project’. We have recently started offering a Life Skills service and we are looking to increase the variety of skills we teach. This service is primarily aimed at elderly individuals who have conditions such as dementia or who have had a stroke. However, we may also have younger clients who have learning difficulties and would like to become more independent.

The particular tasks we would like an OT to teach would include making the bed, making a cup of tea and most other household and cleaning tasks. We would also really appreciate it, if you could train some staff members in order to allow them to help out clients with the aforementioned life skills.

Another part of your role would involve providing advice on structured activities, memory aids and daily scheduling as a way to improve the overall experience for our clients. Furthermore, it would also be beneficial if you could give us some insight into any potential environmental adjustments that we could make to assist in memory/recall/mobility while also reducing stress and distress for both clients and carers. This will involve work to improve our centre, but as the project progresses, there may be opportunities to visit clients homes to deliver home assessment and improve client’s home environment.

If this is something that interests you or you require more information please send an email to fundraising@braidhealth.scot.

Rate of Pay: As this is a freelance position we don’t have an exact rate of pay in mind and the hours worked are negotiable. However, as a guide, we would expect to pay the equivalent hourly/half day rate that a Band 6-7 OT would receive, plus the extra costs incurred due to the nature of freelance work.

Start Date: As soon as possible
